Our Government Relations Committee is asking because there is potential regulation in very, very early stages of discussion that may limit who can provide massage therapy service for animals, and we would like to address concerns of our members as this suggestion is being debated at the request of the Wisconsin Veterinarians Association as part of the regulation of their profession. No formal legislation restricting LMTs from providing animal massage has been proposed as of yet, no action is requested on your part. If proposed legislation (a bill) is actually presented to the WI legislature or if member action is appropriate or needed, we will notify you in the monthly email "Member News You can Use" (or if action needed sooner - in a separate email), on our website and via our facebook page and other social media.
This is an AMTA member benefit - your membership, dues, and contributions allow us to fund a "Legislative Watch" so we may monitor and respond to such developments as this (and attempts that have made to deregulate massage therapy).
Not a member - consider joining - Government Relations is just one of the many benefits that come standard with membership. If becoming a member isn't in your business plan at the moment, consider a contribution to the Wisconsin Chapter - it's not deductible as a charitable donation but may be deducted as a business expense for tax purposes. ps - Members can contribute too!
